Rooted

I’ve spent a lot of time wondering when—and how—my first blog of this journey would come to life. I just never imagined it would look like this.

In 24 hours, we went from asking what’s next?…to we sold our house.

Less than 24 hours on the market, and just like that—SOLD.

I’m not someone who gets speechless…but insert crickets here.

The power of community, faith, and taking a risk on a single Zillow post. In 24 hours, our home sold. And in 30 days, everything we own either needs sold (most of it) or needs to be packed up.

So I guess…this is where the story really begins.

How did we get here?

Life is funny—and I mean that in a genuine, laugh-out-loud, shake-your-head kind of way.

My husband and I became a blended family a little over 13 years ago. When we found each other, we didn’t have much—just a bunch of kids, some broken hearts, and hope for something better.

As we rebuilt our lives, we took a leap into a business venture. We poured everything into it—our time, our energy, our hearts. And it failed.

We lost a lot….

And suddenly, we were right back where we started—kids, broken hearts (not with each other, but from failing so publicly), and once again…a small flicker of hope.

So we did what we’ve always done.

We rebuilt.

Careers. Life. Home. Direction. All of it.

And here’s where life gets funny again.

We’ve collected “things” over the years as we’ve rebuilt…..

And now?

We’re choosing to give it all up.

We’re downsizing into a tiny home. A place in the country. Closer to family. Closer to quiet.

And the word that keeps coming back to me is this:

Rooted.

Over the years, we’ve learned something the hard way—things don’t matter.  Material things no longer hold a significant value to us.

We’ve rebuilt from nothing. We’ve lost people we love. I’ve had my own close call with life that completely shifted my perspective (a story for another time). And through all of it, we’ve started asking a different question:

What do we actually want to be rooted in?

Not things. Not status. Not noise.

Just this:

  • Rooted in faith

  • Rooted in family

  • Rooted in our careers

  • Rooted in quiet

  • Rooted in calm

  • Rooted in financial freedom

  • Rooted in embracing extraordinary

  • Rooted in creating purpose

  • Rooted in everyday joy

I don’t believe life is about being content.

Life is about waking up excited—about your day, your path, your choices.

And if you’re not?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Just kidding, but really.

Really though, pause. Take a hard look. Take the risk. Change direction.

Because there is so much beauty on the other side of risk—but you’ll never see it if you never step into it.

One day, you realize it was never about the big moments.

It’s about falling in love with the ordinary. The quiet. The in-between.

It’s about building a life that feels like yours.

A life that feels…

rooted.
