Behind Closed Doors

This is not going to be my typical post but it's a topic I feel is very heavy. I'm sure you've heard the saying- You don't know what goes on behind closed doors.

Let me open the door of a teacher's life during a pandemic.......

We are are exhausted; mentally, physically, and emotionally. We are sacrificing our time spent with your families to make sure our students are receiving the best education and accommodations during this time of uncertainty. Our weekends are spent creating virtual classrooms and lesson plans, sneaking in breaks to squeeze in some quality time with our spouses and children.

You won't see us complain publicly. We smile and nod, continue on running the race blindly on a course that changes daily.

It's not just teachers; it's our administrators, our janitorial staff, our paraprofessionals, our cafeteria staff, bus drivers, secretaries.....we're all running, hard and fast. We're trying to keep up with new guidelines while trying to keep ourselves well.

We don't do this for us, we do this for our students-who have become part of our school family. Behind our closed doors we are learning so much more beyond the realm of academics. Behind our closed doors, we are setting goals and celebrating each time we achieve them. Behind our closed doors, we are exploring the world through stories and literature. Behind our closed doors, we are cheering each other on each time we conquer something hard. Behind our closed doors, we are building relationships and forming a classroom family. Behind our closed doors, we are spreading kindness and for a brief moment, behind our closed doors......we live in the moment and forget about the chaos of the world.

Behind our closed doors, we are conquering the world....one day at a time.
